Mr. Schmedeke thought these si�ns would be an improvement over what we na�w
h�ve because of the le�ibility and especially the ability to see the street
aamea at might. He added.that if we could save a life by police, mabulauce or
fir� depattment by putting theae aigns on the main interaections, it would be
more thaa worth it.
The cost per block for installation would be about $50.00. Whenever a street
is reaurfaced, curb and gutter, or a new stseet is'put in, then proviaioa could be
made for this in the pro�ect.

Mr. Schmedeke referred to the request for a Special Use Permit for the sale
of recreational equipment in Herwal 2nd Addition and the objections of the neigh-
boss. He suggested the Planning Commniasion take a good look at the GO foot plaat-
ing strip �d coneider planting some evergreen trees so that it would make a more
desirable buffer and attract a developer.
Mr. Harrie said that if the planting strip is deeded to the City, who i.e
r�sponaible for the trash and litter that has accumnlated there? He wondered i£
thia would be a good place to dump street sweepinga as the land 1s pretty low.
Mr. Miniah mentioned that trees produce more oxygen, and woadered if the
evergreea tree produced as much oxygen as the deciduous trees, and also if they
did in the winter. Mr. Schmedeke said it should be looked into, aad added that
every time we can plant a tree, it will benefit our children. He felt the
deciduous tr�:ea look very good in the summer, but the evergreen treea caa be eajoyed
�el]. year around.
