RES 1964-245 - 0001191454 RESOLUTION NO. 245 -1964 A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE NORTH SUBURBAN HOSPITAL DISTRICT WHEREAS, the City of Fridley is a participating member in the five - community North Suburban Hospital District, and WHEREAS, the Hospital District has concluded to build a hos- pital in conjunction with the Glenwood Hills Hospital on a site within the City of Fridley on Osborne Road, and WHERE-^,S, Charles E. Johanson has been the Fridley representa- tive on said Hospital District and at personal sacrifice and incon- venience has given many hours of his time and talent in the work of the District, and WHEREAS, Charles E. Johanson has been a life long resident of Fridley and as a building contractor has built many attractive homes in the area during the past twenty years, and WHEREAS, Victor Cohn, a staff writer for the Minneapolis Tribune, has on a number of occasions written articles attacking the proposed hospital and implying that Charles E. Johanson has a bias because of his construction business in the City, N(_,W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley at a regular meeting held on the 16th day of November, 1964, as follows: 1. That we endorse the objective of the North Suburban Hospital District in constructing and locating a hospital in our City. 2. That we have a population presently in excess of 26,000 and will ultimately have a population of 45,000. 3. That there is a present need for hospital services in our area. 4. That several applications for medical clinics are presently be- fore the Council that will bring additional medical practi- tioners into the area. 5. That Victor Cohn's articles insofar as they would indicate that Charles E. Johanson has a personal motivation that is contrary to the best interests of the City of Fridley are false and ^is- leading. 6. That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the North Subur- ban Hospital District, Charles E. Johanson, Victor Cohn, and the Minneapolis Tribune.
