RESOLUTION No. 120 -1965
A RESOLUTION OF THE FRIDLEY CITY COUNCIL
APPROVING THE ACTION OF THY ANOKA BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS IN DEVELOPING CAMP I•fANCMIN
AND THE LOCKE HOMESTEAD AS A COUNTY PARK
AND HISTORICAL MONUMENT IN ANOKA'COUNTY
WHEREAS, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners have advised
the City Council of Fridley that it intends to purchase and develops
a County Park providing camping and picnic facilities and a historic
monument to early Pioneer days in Anoka County on two contiguous
parcels located within the City of Fridley on the East River Road
which can be designated as the Boy Scout Camp - Camp Monomin and the
Locke Homestead, and
WHEREAS, the purchase and development of said sites present
no conflict with any of the recreational plans now under consideration
by the City of Fridley, and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Playground Subcommittee of the Fridley
Planning Commission has long recognized the need for additional
recreational open space to service the City's expanding population, and
WHEREAS, there is a need for a more open space for recreation
in the Metropolitan area, and
WHEREAS, Anoka County has been engaged for some time in a
comprehensive park and recreational program assisting the various
Municipalities in park development in attempting to provide adequate
recreational facilities throughout the County, and
WHEREAS, a County park located within the City of Fridley would
benefit the residents of the City and would reduce the burden on
Municipal finances to provide an equivalent facility,
NOW, TI-EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF FRTB7ZIY
at a regular session thereof, as follows:
1. That the City Council of Fridley approves and endorses
the action of the County Board of Commissioners in purchasing and
developing as a County Park and historic monument the property located
on the East River Road within the City, commonly known as the Boy
Scout Camp and the Locke Homestead.
