RES 1966-40 - 0001099252 RESOLUTION NO. 40 -1966 A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND ORGANIZATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE AFTER THE FLOODS AND TORNADO OF 1965. BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Fridley, Anoka County, Minnesota- asfollows: WHEREAS, the City of Fridley suffered substantial damage from floods occurring on the Mississippi River during the period of April 10 to April 15, 1965, and; WHEREAS, on May 6, 1965, the City of Fridley, along with other suburban communities, was struck by a devastating tornado, and; WHEREAS, as a result of the calamities, 425 homes were completely destroyed and 1,224 homes were severely damaged, and; WHEREAS, such destruction resulted in damage of millions of dollars to residental and public buildings and public utilities, and; WHEREAS, 550 families were unable to continue to reside in their homes and major areas of the City were without utilities, and; WHEREAS; the need for volunteer service, in terms of manpower and supplied was critical; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Fridley City Council, by this Resolution, does express the sincere gratitude of the residents of the community to those many organizations, both within the community and with- out, who volunteered countless hours of their time; and thousands of dollars in the form of money and supplies; which greatly aided the recovery from the effect of said disasters.
