RESOLUTION NO. 219 -1969
IN OPPOSITION TO THE YOUNG SOCIALIST ALLIANCE
- -- - CONVENTION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
WHEREAS, the announcement has been made that the Young Socialist Alliance
will hold their annual national convention December 27 to 30 at the University
of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the Association is headed by a person purported by the news media
to be a full -time Marxist revolutionary bent on overthrowing the establishment
and replacing capitalism with socialism in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the University is a tax supported institution maintained and
supported by those who treasure the heritage and form of government prevailing;
and
WHEREAS, American youth are fighting and dying on battlefields to halt
the spread of communism and preserve not only the American way of life in this
Country, but assure peoples of less powerful governments are not driven to
submission to a communistic government; and
WHEREAS, the people who support and maintain our tax supported schools should
have a voice in the use of such property by those who advocate the overthrow
of our government; and
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Fridley is opposed to the use of
tax supported facilities for use of organizations advocating the overthrow of
our government;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Fridley
to go on record as being opposed to the University of Minnesota or any other
tax supported 'school or legislative body allowing the use of a public building
for meetings held by any organization whose members or membership includes
those who advocate the overthrow of our present form of government - national,
state or local.
