RES 1970-133 - 000098051713 IRESOLUTION NO. 133 -1970 RESOLUTION REQUESTING METROPOLITAN COUNCIL TO COORDINATE A STUDY FOR THE NEED OF ADDITIONAL BRIDGE OVER THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER WHEREAS, Interstate Highway #694 and U.S. Highway 52 and 169 provide the only bridges across the Mississippi River for the several communities north and northwest of the Twin Cities, and WHEREAS, these two bridges are more than ten miles apart thus causing great inconvenience to the residents of the City of Fridley, WHEREAS, there exists a present need for additional river crossings, WHEREAS, an additional river crossing would also foster and encourage the economic development of the north suburban areas, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley that the Metropolitan Council is hereby requested to undertake and coordinate a study of the need for a new bridge between the two aforementioned bridges so as to determine its proper location, to reserve future highway right of way, and to suggest a means of financing such a crossing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Metropolitan Council create a steering committee for such a study to consist of representatives from the Metropolitan Council, the Minnesota Highway Department, the Hennepin County Highway Department, the Anoka County Highway Department, the Hennepin County Association of Municipalities and the Anoka County Association of Municipalities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby expresses its intention of cooperation in the undertaking of such a study.
