RES 1971-67 - 00009149RESOLUTION NO. 67 -1971 RESOLUTION REQUESTING COMMISSIONER OF HIGHWAYS, STATE OF MINNESOTA TO MAKE A TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION AND DETERMINE A REASONABLE AND SAFE SPEED LIMIT ON 73RD AVENUE NORTHEAST WHEREAS, the Minnesota Highway Department has raised the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour on Osborne Road (County Road 8), which borders the north boundary of Fridley; and WHEREAS, Woodcrest Elementary School, Prince of Peach Parochial School, Unity Hospital and the Fridley Medical Center are located along Osborne Road; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fridley recognized the problems along Osborne Road; and WHEREAS, 73rd Avenue between T.H. #47 (University Avenue) and T.H. #65, for the most part, has two separate roads serving the industrial and residential areas; and WHEREAS, it might be possible to relieve some of the pressure on Osborne Road by making use of 73rd Avenue. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley that the Commissioner of Highways, State of Minnesota, is hereby requested to make a traffic investigation to determine a reasonable and safe speed limit on 73rd Avenue (the roadway serving industry) between T.H. #47 (University Avenue) and T.H. #65, along with any additional needed safety devices.
