RES 1971-73 - 00009158)n RESOLUTION NO. 73 -1971 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MINNESOTA HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO DO A STUDY FOR I PROVIDING WARNING DEVICES AND OTHER SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ALONG T.H. #47 TO GIVE SAFE ACCESS FROM THE FRIDLEY FIRE STATION ONTO THE HIGHWAY ' WHEREAS, there is a crossover provided onto T.H. #47 in front of the Fridley Fire Station at 6431 University Avenue N.E. for the crossing of emergency vehicles; and WHEREAS, the traffic volume on T.H. #47 is constantly increasing and at present it is more than 20,000 vehicles per day; and WHEREAS, in the last 12 months, between July 1, 1970 through -June 30, 1971, the Fridley Fire Department had 382 runs out of the fire station and 56.3% of these runs were between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 12:00 Midnight; and WHEREAS, there have been near accidents, especially where the fire equi- ment comes onto the north bound traffic of T.H. 047; and WHEREAS, there seems to be an additional need for warning devices and safety improvements along T.H. #47 to advise people of the possibility of fire equipment coming onto the highway; and WHEREAS, in other areas there have been warning lights used as shown in the attached Exhibit "A ". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fridley ' that the Minnesota Highway Department do a study for providing warning devices and other safety improvements along T.H. #47 to give safe access from the Fridley Fire Station onto the highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Warning devices shown on the attached Exhibit "A" be given due consideration during this study.
