RES 1972-36 - 00008332RESOLUTION NO. 36 -1972 A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE DENIAL OF AUTHORITY TO THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL FOR INCREASED LAND -USE CONTROL POWER WHEREAS, the City of Fridley, Minnesota is located within the County of Anoka; and WHEREAS, the County of Anoka is located within the Minneapolis - St. Paul Standard Metropolitan Area; and WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council, since its formation in 1967, has affected the growth of the Minneapolis -St. Paul Standard Metropolitan Area by the use of its authority of review over the plans of all local governments and agencies when these plans are used to apply for federal grants and loans; and WHEREAS, this review authority may adversely affect the receipt of federal grants and loans by local governments and agencies; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fridley firmly believes that the right to govern themselves as a city includes the right to plan and designate land -use within the city in accordance with the wishes of the people of the City of Fridley; and WHEREAS, the City Council does wish to continue to apply the principles of this belief; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fridley does most strongly and urgently request that the Minnesota State Legislature deny any request they may have, prior to the date of this resolution, or which may in the future come before it requesting that additional land -use powers be granted to the Metropolitan Council; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Fridley strongly urges that all other municipalities of the Standard Metropolitan Area of Minneapolis -St. Paul join with us in this resolution.
