RES 1972-68 - 00008399124 RESOLUTION NO. 68 -1972 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF FRIDLEY AND THE CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS AUTHORIZING FIRST ALARM JOINT FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONSE TO DESIGNATED PROPERTIES WITHIN THE TWO CITIES BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fridley, Anoka County, Minnesota, as follows: WHEREAS, the City of Fridley and the City of Columbia Heights adjoin each other for a substantial distance; and WHEREAS, both the City of Fridley and the City of Columbia Heights maintain a municipal fire department; and WHEREAS, it is in the mutual interests of both communities to provide maximum fire protection for all properties within both municipalities; and WHEREAS, it would be in the best interests of the properties within the municipalities to have both fire departments available in case of a major fire; NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Fridley authorizes its Mayor and City Manager to enter into a joint powers agreement with the City of Columbia Heights, which agree- ment would authorize the fire departments of each city to be available ' on a first alarm joint fire department response to designated properties within the two municipalities. Be it further resolved, that the City Council of the City of Fridley authorizes its Chief of the fire department to act in conjunction with the Chief of the Columbia Heights fire department to designate those properties within the two municipalities which will be subject to the joint agreement. Said authority also authorizes the chiefs of the two municipalities to amend said list from time to time as would appear to be in the best interests of their respective communities.
