RES 1973-58 - 0000809996 RESOLUTION NO. 58 -1973 A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO THE PASSAGE OF HOUSE FILE 1506 RELATING TO ELECTIONS, PROVIDING FOR REGISTRATION OF THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED AT THEIR RESIDENCES, AMENDING MINNESOTA STATUTES 1971, SECTION 201.20. WHEREAS, the Fridley City Council has received and carefully considered House File 1506 which amends Minnesota Statutes 1971, Section 201.20, and WHEREAS, House File 1506 would require that-within four months prior to Statewide elections, commissioners of registration or deputies would be required to visit all senior citizens apartment homes, nursing homes and all other multiple dwellings in which there resides at least 25 persons entitled to vote and register all those who wish to be regis- tered, and WHEREAS, the City of Fridley presently provided staff to visit seniorcitizen apartment homes or nursing homes that requests assistance in registering senior citizens, and WHEREAS, the City of Fridley presently provides public notice to its citizens of voter registration times, locations, and WHEREAS, the City of Fridley presently registers persons at pub- licly accessable locations such as shopping centers and schools, and WHEREAS, House File 1506 requires municipalities to provide , individuals to visit multiple dwellings where 25 or more persons re- side who are entitled to vote, and WHEREAS, additional City staff would be required in order to take care of the additional requirements of House File 1506, and WHEREAS, House File 1506 puts an undue financial hardship upon the City of Fridley, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley that the Council strongly urges the General Legislation and Veterans Affairs Committee to deny adoption of House File 1506 relating to elections.
