RES 1974-70 - 00007900RESOLUTION NO. 70 -1974 A RESOLUTION DECLARING JUNE 16, 1974 AS "HUNGER DAY" ' WHEREAS, many Citizens of the Metropolitan Area, as well as Citizens of the City of Fridley, are in immediate need of emergency food service; and WHEREAS, the ten major distribution centers for community volunteer emergency food shelves have been set up within the Metropolitan Area; and WHEREAS, their purpose and intent is to provide short term assistance with food to families and individuals prior to referring such crisis situations to public agencies; and WHEREAS, private funds and food are donated from many sources and have supported these food shelves; and WHEREAS, the ever - increasing costs related to all services have risen due to inflation, and the current economic conditions have depleted the supply of food available through these designated distribution centers; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fridley recognizes its duty to respond to our less fortunate Citizen's needs; and WHEREAS, these distribution centers are in desperate need of replenishment; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley that June 16, 1974 be declared "HUNGER DAY "; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we strongly encourage all segments of our Citizenry to assist the Minneapolis Urban Coalition in their collection of food and financial commitments to replenish this vitaly important resource many Citizens so desperately need.
