RES 1975-47 - 0000755564 RESOLUTION NO. 47 - 1975 RESOLUTION SUPPORTTNG THE GOVERNORtS PROPOSAL FOR A REDISTRIBUTION OF GROSS EARNINGS TAXES ON RAILROADS AND TELEPHONE COMPANIES WHEREAS, Property taxes tend to be highest and most burden- some in cities and in the absence of some action by the State Legislature, municipal property taxes in the City of Fridley will increase in I 1976 and 1977, and WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Fridley strongly favors the reduction of municipal property taxes, and the most feasible way of accomplishing this without drastically reducing essential municipal services is through the distribution of railroad and telephone gross earnings taxes to cities as proposed by Governor Anderson, and WHEREAS, Local units of government receive no property taxes or other taxes from railroad or telephone property and the City of Fridley will receive approximately $ 257,542.30 under the proposed distribution of telephone and railroad gross earnings in 1976, and WHEREAS, This method of tax reduction is preferable to other alternatives being considered. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Council of the City of Fridley respectfully urges the Minnesota State Legislature to distribute all of the telephone and railroad gross earnings taxes, amounting to 46 million in 1976 and $49 million in 1977, to local units of government as proposed by Governor Anderson, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be I transmitted to the Governor of the State of Minnesota, Members of the State Legislature and the League of Minnesota Municipalities.
