RES 1976-114 - 00007473V013 013 RESOLUTION NO. 114 -1976 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ANOKA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS IN COOPERATION WITH THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON EAST RIVER ROAD FROM I.694 TO THE NORTHERN CITY LIMITS TO 30 MPH WHEREAS, the City of Fridley has been concerned about the unsafe driving ' conditions and high accident record on East River Road through the City of Fridley; and WHEREAS, a considerable portion of East River Road in Fridley has residential development along it; and WHEREAS, the continued development of residential, commercial and industrial areas in the communities north of Fridley is putting an added traffic burden on East River Road; and WHEREAS, the speed limit is established at 40 and 45 MPH and the road is not designed to carry large volume, high speed traffic in the congested residential areas from Interstate Highway 694 on the south to the north City limits of the City of Fridley; and WHEREAS, Trunk Highway 47 and Highway 65 are only a short distance to the east of East River Road and are designed to handle large volume traffic at higher than residential district speeds, and East River Road is substandard and cannot adequately carry large volume commuter traffic. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley that the Anoka County Commissioners in cooperation with the State Highway Commission is hereby requested to immediately reduce the speed on East River Road from Highway 694 north to the northern City Limits of the City of Fridley to 30 miles per hour in the I interest of saving lives and reducing injuries on this extremely dangerous substandard highway.
