RES 1976-54 - 00007385• RESOLUTION NO. 54 -1976 RESOLUTION REQUESTING 50 PERCENT COST SHARING FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RE- SOURCES FOR THE INSTALLATION OF AN ARTIFICIAL AERATION /CIRCULATION SYSTEM AND A FISHING PIER FOR THE EAST SIDE OF MOORE LAKE WHEREAS, the eastern portion of Moore Lake is extensively used as a recreational area, principally for fishing and swimming and WHEREAS, the City of Fridley maintains park facilities on Moore Lake; and WHEREAS, severe winters have periodically result- ed in a fish winterkill thereby shifting the predominant fish population to an undesirable rough fish species; and WHEREAS, the City of Fridley is interested in improving the recreational value and the prevention of fish winterkill in east Moore Lake; and WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources manages Moore Lake through routine stocking with game fish; and WHEREAS, artificial aeration /circulation systems have demonstrated the ability to destratify lakes in the sum- mer and to prevent fish winterkill; and WHEREAS, "fishing piers" have been shown to increase the recreational value of a lake for fishing purposes; and WHEREAS, the City of Fridley has made application to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit to work in public waters; and WHEREAS, the cost to install and monitor the arti- ficial aeration /circulation system is $3,528 and the cost to build a fishing pier is $3,000. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fridley hereby requests 50 percent cost sharing from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the installa- tion of an artificial aeration /circulation system and a fish- ing pier for the east side of Moore Lake. - ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY THIS 21st DAY OF JUNE, 1976.
