A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO A BILL PROVIDING FOR THE TABULATION
AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF VOTES CAST ON ELECTRONIC VOTING SYSTEMS;
AMENDING MINNESOTA STATUTES 1977, SECTION 206.185, SUBDIVISION 5,
AND BY ADDING A SUBDIVISION
WHEREAS, the bill proposed by Representative Bruce Williamson of
Bloomington would slow down the official vot counting process, as the
proposed procedure would double the computer time required for counting
ballots; and
WHEREAS, the delay would cause the ju ges to stand in line twice
while their ballots were being run through the computer; and
WHEREAS, this would add additional computer costs, election judge
costs, and other administrative costs for the cities involved; and
WHEREAS, instead of running 54 precincts for the six Anoka County
municipalities on the electronic voting system, the County would have to
double that number or run 108 precincts through the computer; and
WHEREAS, there is a possibility of da aging the ballots by running
them through the computer more than once; an
WHEREAS, the programming cost would increase to allow for a
preliminary results and then a final result; and
WHEREAS, there is a risk of someone 9�tting the preliminary results
and the final results confused or mixed up resulting in someone getting
the wrong information; and
WHEREAS, by running the preliminary cunt and then the final count
a delay of the final count would result; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of
Fridley hereby goes on record as being oppos d to the proposed bill by
Representative Bruce Williamson providing fo the tabulation and announcement
of votes cast on the electronic voting syste .
