A RESOLUTION ADVISING ANOKA COUNTY OF THE DATE OF THE
MUNICIPAL INCORPORATION OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY
WHEREAS,
the Anoka County Board
of Commissioners has recently
issued a county
map which, among other
things, purports to give a
history of the City
of Fridley; and
WHEREAS,
said history states that
the Village of Fridley was
incorporated on
December 18, 1950; and
WHEREAS,
the Fridley Community
has for some years celebrated
'
a week called the
Forty - Niners in commemoration of the Village incor-
poration; and
WHEREAS,
the December 18, 1950,
date would place Fridley after
Coon Rapids, Circle Pines and Lexington
as to initial incorporation as
as municipality,
and
WHEREAS, error has been committed in view of these facts:
1. The petition for incorporation was filed with the County
Board on January 29, 1949.
2. The Anoka County Board supervised the election which was
held on June 7, 1949.
3. The vote for incorporation was 431 in favor and 343 against.
4. The vote was certified on June 9, 1949. This is the date
of incorporation.
5. The first village officers were elected on June 28, 1949.
6. The Supreme Court affirmed the validity of the incorporation
in 1951 in the case of State ex rel Northern Pump Co. vs
the so- called Village of Fridley et al, cited at 223 Minn
TTL, T/ I \Y\ LU LVY.
7. The Supreme Court confirmed the June 9, 1949, dat
incorporation in the case of State ex rel Fridley
Columbia Heights, cited at 237 Minn 124 and 53 NW
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
meeting in regular session on Monday, June 19, 1978, and just
to the 1978 Forty -Niner celebration....

That the Anoka County Board of Commissioners be advised of the
error in their county map brochure; and
That the legitimate birthday of Fridley as June 9, 1949, be
proclaimed;
That the Mayor and Manager of the City of Fridley be directed
to circulate this resolution to such persons and agencies who may be
affected.
ADOPTED THIS 19TH DAY OF JUNE, 1978, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRIDLEY.
