RES 1979-34 - 0000667948 RESOLUTION NO. 34 - 1979 GREAT RIVER ROAD SPUR ROUTE DESIGNATION OF EAST RIVER ROAD NORTH OF I -694 WHEREAS, Great River Road designation has been given to East River Road South of I -694 in the City of Fridley, MN., and WHEREAS, that designation crosses over to West River Road (Hwy. 169) at I -694 and continues north to Champlin, and WHEREAS, East River Road (the Historic Red River Trail - 1847) north of I -694 has three potential projects that would greatly benefit the users of the Great River Road and would promote the beauty and history of the Great River as per the intent of the Federal legislation, and WHEREAS, these projects include the Islands of Peace Park, Banfill Tavern Historical Site (on the National Register of historic places) and Springbrook Nature Center, and WHEREAS, present legislation does not allow for spur routes on the opposite side of the river from the designated Great River Road. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY: That exception be taken in those instances where the route designation crosses the river to allow Spur routes to continue up to 6 miles where there are projects which will benefit the users of the Great River Road and promote the beauty and history of the Mississippi River. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fridley re- quests that the representatives of the State of Minnesota support this position for the benefit of its residents and users of the Great River Road.
