RES 1980-42 - 00006481RESOLUTION NO. 42 - 1980 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF AN AMENDMENT TO U.S. HOUSE BILL 5200 FOR ELIMINATION OF AN ADMINISTRATIVE COURT WITHIN THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR ZONING AND LAND USE DECISION REVIEW WHEREAS, a bill entitled Fair Housing Amendments of 1980, H.R. 5200 to be voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives would authorize federal review of local zoning decisions; and WHEREAS, as a municipality we strongly believe in local government rights and that the City of Fridley shall have full power to deal with all matters of municipal concern and have complete self - government in harmony with and subject to the U.S. Constitution and laws of the State of Minnesota; and WHEREAS, the adoption of H.R. 5200 would put the Federal Government directly in city affairs through a created Administrative Court within the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development which would impose their regulations in discriminatory complaints on local zoning and land use practices. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY, MINNESOTA, supports the Sensenbrenner- Volkmer Amendment to H.R. 5200 which would eliminate the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Court and the opportunity for local zoning decision review by HUD.
