RES 1985-24 - 00005120RFSCLUTION NO. 24 - 1985 RFSMUTIDN IN OPPOSITION TO A BILL ALLOWING THE SALE OF WINE OR OTHER STRONG ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN GROCERY OR OONVENIENCE STORES WHEREAS, the sale of wine and other strong alcoholic beverages in the State of ' Minnesota is restricted to those outlets holding intoxicating liquor licenses; and WHEREAS, the restriction has tended to help regulate the sale of strong beer and wine within the State of Minnesota; and 1 11 WHEREAS, the control would be greatly reduced if any retail outlet that is now permitted to sell 3.2 beer would be permitted to sell wine and other strong alcoholic beverages; and WHEREAS, the sale of wine and other strong alcoholic beverages in retail stores would reduce revenues to the City's municipal liquor store; and WHEREAS, the sale of wine and other strong alcoholic beverages in retail stores would add additinal expense to the City's Police Department for control of the law; and WHEREAS, It is desirable from a City public policy standpoint to regulate and control the method of dispensing wine and other strong alcoholic beverages. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESCUED that the City Council of the City of Fridley, Minnesota, hereby goes on record as being opposed to the bill allowing the sale of wine and other strong alcoholic beverages in grocery or convenience stores.
