RESOLUTION NO. 38 - 1993
' RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENTS TO THE FRIDLEY COMMUNICATIONS
WORKSHOP TO DEFRAY THE COSTS OF CABLE TELEVISION ACCESS EQUIPMENT
WHEREAS, the Fridley Communications Workshop (FCW) has been established as the
local cable public access entity given the responsibilities to educate, train,
and promote community programming productions for Fridley Cable Television; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to preserve and maintain facilities to
ensure ongoing community programming in Fridley; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley renewed the Cable Television Franchise in 1988 for
a fifteen year period. The cable operator is required to submit to the City an
equipment grant of $60,000 plus inflation by March 1, 1993, to be used to
replace or acquire equipment in support of public educational, government (PEG)
access over a five year period; and
WHEREAS, the cable operator has fulfilled this condition by contributing $73,200
to the City of Fridley (which has been deposited in the Cable Television fund)
based on the December 31, 1992, Consumer Price Index. The payment is subject
to adjustments based on the January 31, 1993, Index when it becomes available.
THe $73,200 will be adjusted up or down based on the January 31, 1993, Index;
and
WHEREAS, the attached Agreement "Exhibit A" relating to the purchase or
' replacement or equipment in support of public access has been worked out by the
City Cable Television Coordinator and the Fridley Communications Workshop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley that
Thirty -six Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($36,600) from the Cable Television Fund
be allocated for the purpose of purchase and installation of needed production
equipment by the Fridley Communications Workshop
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Fridley will allocate the remaining 1993
equipment grant funds for the purchase and installation of public, educational
and /or government access equipment at some time in the year 1995.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Manager be authorized to execute
the attached Agreement relating to the purchase of cable television equipment
by the Fridley Communications Workshop (FCW) in accordance with the Cable
Television Franchise Agreement.
