RESOLUTION NO. 28 - 1995
A RESOLUTION RELATING TO WORKERS' COMPENSATION INSURANCE
WHEREAS, the intent of Workers' Compensation Insurance is to provide workers
with reasonable compensation for injuries and to provide employers protection
from financial losses, both with minimal legal process and minimal obstruction;
and
WHEREAS, counties, cities, school districts and the State of Minnesota spend a
combined $100 million per year for direct and indirect payments of Workers'
Compensation Insurance; and
WHEREAS, there exist abuses of the system by insureds, workers, and insurers;
and
WHEREAS, reform of the existing system should provide reasonable rates for
insureds and appropriate expenses for the insurers while providing responsible
benefits for the injured workers; and
WHEREAS, the cost of Workers' Compensation Insurance is an expense of doing
business; and
WHEREAS, the attraction and the retention of quality businesses is essential to -
the success of the State of Minnesota; and
I WHEREAS, Workers' Compensation Reform has been the topic of discussion for years
at the Minnesota State Legislature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fridley is
calling upon the Legislature and the Governor to enact major workers'
compensation reform that will provide proper compensation for injured workers
while maintaining competitive rates for employers.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be sent immediately to the
legislative delegation representing the City of Fridley.
