BL"RNS, CIT`Y LNAGER,,t\ RICHRD D. PRIBYL, FI'10E DIRECTOR DEBRa A. SKOGEN, CIT' CLERK StiBJECT: Cr'tiAS REPORT OF GE:YERAL ELECTION — NOVEiIBER 5, 2002 DTE: November 7, 2000 A general election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, for the offices of Councilmember Wards 1, 2 and 3. Attachment 1 is the Statement of Canvass for this election. State Law states that the City Council must canvas the results within 7 days of the election. I have included the total number of ballots cast in the city for this election, the total number of votes for each candidate and ballot question (which includes over-votes, under-votes and write-ins where applicable), a true copy of the ballot, and the names of the election judges as required. In reviewing the tally sheets for the write in candidates we found that not all of the precincts tallied their results. Some precincts had problems with the ballot boxes not depositing the write-in ballots on the appropriate side of the ballot box due to the (ength of the ballot which caused frequent jamming in the box. In Ward 1, Dick Schneider received 615 votE;s that were tallied. W 1 P 1 had difficulty with their ballot box and did not tally the write-in votes for cir.y council. It was late in the evening and they would have had to go through all of the ballots to determine the write in votes. The remainder of the write-in votes that were tallied were for individuals or name:; receiving one vote. In Ward 2, there were a total of 53 write-in votes for individuals or names receiving one ar two votes. In Ward 3, Jean Hagberg received 53 write-ir votes and Ricnard Gacek received 15 write-in votes. The remainder of the write-in votes were far individuals or names receiving one ar two votes. There were a total number of 14,635 registered voters at 7:00 a.m. on election day and a total of 1,789 new registrations for a total number of registered voters of 16,424. The average voter turnout in the City of Fridley for the general election was 70%. Staff recommends a motion accepting and certifying the results of the election. 1 N O O cv c o , ` .. ,,,, O O Z y O Gz, U r, O 1 i . e V " a a 3 en o N i- N i, w 0 ti.
