A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING ALL CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY TO
ENGAGE THEIR ELECTED OFFICIALS ON ISSUES IMPORTANT TO THEM
Whereas, there is currently discussion being held regarding the possibility of a sports stadium
being built in the City of Blaine and the County of Anoka; and
Whereas, there have been, and continues to be, discussions regarding the possible funding of
such a sports stadium; and
Whereas, one possible source of funding being considered is public financing; and
Whereas, the City Council of the City of Fridley is not considering implementing or expanding
any new or existing taxes to be imposed by the City of Fridley on the citizens of Fridley for the
purposes of funding such a sports stadium; and
Whereas, the citizens of Fridley are represented by duly elected representatives, including, but
not limited to four separate School Boards, three Minnesota State Representatives, Two
Minnesota State Senators, Two Anoka County Commissioners, Two United States Senators, One
United States Congressman, a Governor and several State Constitutional Officers; and
Whereas, all elected Officials have a responsibility to their electorate to gather as much
information as they need and act in a deliberate and direct manner when voting on issues; and
Whereas, any decisions regarding public financing for such a sports stadium are likely to be
voted on by the Blaine City Council, the Anoka County Board of Commissioners, and the
Minnesota State Legislature;
Now Therefore Be It Resolved, That the City Council of the City of Fridley encourages all
Citizens of the City of Fridley to engage their elected representatives and to make their
individual and collective feelings known to their elected representatives regarding all issues that
are important to them.

On a 4 to 1 vote, the Fridley City Council passed the above resolution on January 23, 2006. This
resolution was substituted for a resolution regarding a referendum on possible public funding for
a Sports Stadium in Blaine.
