EQECM 04/14/2015 ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND ENERGY COMMISSION Fridley Municipal Center, 6431 University Ave Ne Minutes (Draft) April 14, 2015, 7:00 p.m. Minutes Location: Conference Room A (Main Level, Fridley City Hall) Call to Order Chairman Todd Olin called the meeting to order at 7:01 Introductions Approve Environmental Quality and Energy Commission Minutes MOTION by Commissioner Westby and seconded by Commissioner Velin to approve the March 10, 2015 minutes. The motion passed unanimously. New Business Blue Star Award has been won by the City of Fridley after completion of an assessment: Blue Star is a voluntary statewide program honoring MN cities that go above & beyond minimum  standards for improving water quality and stormwater abatement. The award is through partnership of State agencies, Watershed Districts & Friends of the Mississippi th Fridley ranked in top 10 of all MN Cities (8!) who took the assessment because of clean water efforts  by Council & excellent watershed partners Blue Star award attains a Greenstep City Best Management practice  The May 2, Spring Residential Recycling Drop-off will have an advertiser board near Columbia Arena and an extra add. We hope to get another 100-150 people to bring items to the Drop-off. Business Energy Summit was a success according to EQEC Chair Todd Olin. Old Business Earth Week-information only, staff will present stormwater and recycling talks to the grade school students from Stevenson Elementary School. th Raingarden Seminar will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015. Greenstep Cities GreenStep Cities Best Management Practices were reviewed and a Break-out session commenced to work on prioritization of the practices which will be the most cost-effective and useful for the City. Individual Commissioners may have special skills to help further some of these best management goals. As an example, new Commissioner Mark Hansen, (civil engineer for the City of Coon Rapids) volunteered to look at Greenstep Cities BMP #17 regarding MIDS stormwater language and City Code.
