A primary election was held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, to select candidates for the office of
Councilmember at Large. Attachment 1 is the Statement of Canvass for this election. State Law
requires the City Council to canvass the results of the primary 3 days after the election. I have
included the total number of ballots cast in the City for this election, the total number of votes for
each candidate, a true copy of the ballot, and the names of the election judges as required.
There were a total number of 14,931 registered voters at 7:00 a.m. and 45 Election Day
registrations for a total of 14,976 registered voters. Of those registered voters, 1160 individuals
cast a ballot in the City thereby giving the City a voter turnout of 7.7%. The precinct with the
highest voter turnout was Ward 3 Precinct 2 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The lowest voter
turnout was Ward 3 Precinct 4 at Fridley Covenant Church. It was a very quiet day,but we had
excellent and dedicated election judges working with us on Election Day.
Staff recommends a motion accepting and certifying the results of the election.
