The conditions contained herein shall be considered as requirements for the proposed project. A written response or additional documents may be necessary and are due prior to initiation of the Final Inspection and approval for issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy or Fire Department permit completion. You may contact the Office of the Fire Marshal at (763) 572-3621 for additional information. 1. Demolition and construction activities shall be governed by requirements of 2007 MSFC Chapter 14, Fire Safety during Demolition and Construction, and NFPA Standard 241 (2000), Standard for Safeguarding Construction,Alteration, and Demolition Operations. 2. Modify the fire sprinkler system compliant with provisions of 2010 NFPA Standard 13,Installation of Sprinkler Systems, for alteration or construction work shown on reviewed plan and as needed. City FD permit required prior to initiation of work. (2007 MSFC Sections 105.7.1, 901.4 and 2010 NFPA standard 13) 3. Modification, alteration or installation of a fire alarm system or equipment requires the fire alarm contractor to apply for and receive a City of Fridley FD permit prior to initiation of work. A State of Minnesota Electrical Permit may also be required through the City of Fridley Inspections Department. Required fire alarm permit submittal documents are provided in 2007 MSFC 907.1.1. (2007 MSFC 105.7.4 2010 NFPA 72). a. Smoke detection devices installed in air distribution or air-handling systems by provision of the State Mechanical Code shall perform the intended function and if the building or occupancy is equipped with a fire alarm system, shall generate a supervisory signal at the fire alarm control panel or constantly attended location. (2007 MSFC 907.11) b. Smoke detectors that are installed in air distribution or air-handling systems for shutdown purposes and that are connected to a fire alarm system shall not sound a general evacuation signal. (2007 MSFC 907.11.1.1) C. Duct detection device control/test units shall be installed and located in an approved location which provides accessibility to building maintenance and/or Fire Department personnel for testing or other purposes. 4. Install emergency egress illumination in the means of egress including exit discharge compliant with 2007 MSFC Section 1006,Means of Egress illumination. 5. Install compliant exit signage as required. (2007 MSFC Section 1011) 6. Provide information concerning combustible interior finish materials used for this project. Interior finish materials shall be classified as required by 2007 MSFC Section 803 as to flame spread and smoke development characteristics. Interior wall and ceiling finish shall have a flame spread index not greater than that specified in 2007 MSFC Table 803.3 for the group of proposed occupancy and location of interior finish. Please furnish product specification sheets listing this information. 7. The required fire-resistance rating of rated construction shall be maintained. Openings through rated construction for the passage of wiring, sleeves, conduit,piping, etc. shall be protected by repair with approved materials which maintains the rating of the construction damaged, altered,breeched or penetrated. (2007 MSFC 703.1) 8. Inspect the unprotected space between the ceiling and roof deck and remove all abandoned utilities, combustible materials and storage from that unprotected space. (2007 MSFC 102.8 and 304.1) 9. Rooms containing controls for air-conditioning systems, sprinkler risers and valves, or other fire detection, suppression or control elements shall be identified for the use of the fire department. Approved signs required to identify fire protection equipment and equipment location, shall be constructed of durable materials,permanently installed and readily visible. (2007 MSFC 510.1) 10. Doors into electrical control panel rooms shall be marked with a plainly visible and legible sign stating "ELECTRICAL ROOM". The disconnecting means for each service, feeder or branch circuit originating on a switchboard or panelboard shall be legibly and durably marked to indicate its purpose unless such purpose is clearly evident. (2007 MSFC 605.3.1) 11. Storage intended for this area shall be maintained a minimum of 18 inches below sprinkler head deflectors. (2007 MSFC 315.2.1) 12. Following completion of construction and approval of systems requiring Fire Department construction permits, the Fire Marshal will participate in a Certificate of Occupancy inspection required prior to tenant occupancy.
