Res 2017-62 JPA for Prosecuting Atty RESOLUTION NO. 2017 – 62 A RESOLUTION APPROVING A JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT FOR CRIMINAL PROSECUTION SERVICES BETWEEN THE CITY OF FRIDLEY AND THE CITY OF COON RAPIDS AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF SAID AGREEMENT WHEREAS, the City of Fridley’s current criminal prosecutor has announced his retirement requiring the City to seek criminal prosecution legal services; and WHEREAS, The City of Coon Rapids, through its in-house City Attorney’s office, has the ability and expertise to provide criminal prosecution services; and WHEREAS, on September 25, 017, the Fridley City Council directed staff to negotiate an agreement with Coon Rapids for criminal prosecution services; and WHEREAS, the cities of Fridley and Coon Rapids see a benefit of sharing resources between the two municipalities to create more efficient and cost saving governmental operations for citizens of both cities; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Minnesota Statute 471.59 the cities wish to enter into a joint powers agreement to allow Coon Rapids to provide criminal prosecution services to Fridley pursuant to this agreement. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby approves the Joint Powers Agreement for Criminal Prosecution Services between the City of Fridley and the City of Coon Rapids, as shown in Attachment 1, and authorize said agreement by the mayor and city manager.
