RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO THE MINNESOTA
DEPARMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR GRANT FUNDING FOR THE
"MANAGEMENT OF EMERALD ASH BORER IN COMMUNITY FORESTS."
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has released a Request for
Proposals for grant funding for the management of emerald ash borer in community forests; and
WHEREAS, an application for grant funding must be submitted to the Minnesota Department of
the Natural Resources by August 24, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley is committed to protecting and enhancing the benefits provided
by its community forest; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley has an Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation Plan to prevent the spread
and mitigate the damage of the insect Emerald Ash Borer on ash trees on public lands and right-
of-ways; and
WHEREAS, the Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation Plan directs the City to remove and replace low -
quality ash trees, treat high-quality, specimen ash trees, and educate residents about emerald ash
borer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fridley supports
seeking grant funding for the "Management of Emerald Ash Borer in Community Forests" to
assist the City in the implementation of the Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation Plan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby approves the
submittal of an application for grant funding for the "Management of Emerald Ash Borer in
Community Forests."
