A Special Tribute.; Last Winter when the position of 49er Senior

oling—Tournament Director was open, I asked for and received the
Job thinking that this task would require quite a bit of work, but
I was proved wrong. I was wrong because of how all the people in-
volved were so wholeheartedly willing to share the responsibilities
that accompany events such as tournaments. It wouldhave been
Impossible to get more cooperation than Maple Lanes owners, managers,
and experienced staff showed, Fridley's Senior Coordinator, Connie,
was certainly on the ball, getting several really nice prizes for
the tournament, The Tournament Committee was faithful in attending
meetings and in contacting business places for their donations . The
businesses in Fridley and the near area were very cooperative and
gene mus in theiriving. The community organizations who gave money
provided a good snare of boost to the Senior Tournament. All of
these people, in union, made it possible for a lot of seniors to have
a vey en) oyable day,
The was one more group who donated something new this year, T*he
Junior Bowling League of Maple Lanes donated 10 attractive trophies
that were awarded to the top winners in each of the ten classes of
th1s year's tournament. The Junior Leaguers, numbering 180 strong
and ranging in age from 10-15 years, earn all of their league money
and usually have enough left over to build a surplus fund. Normally,
parts of the surplus fund is used for special awards for league
members , to help other Juniors get acquainted, and also learn more
aboutthe game of bowling . This year, the Junior League chose to
direct some of their money to another worthy cause - to buy trophies
forrthe Senior .Tournament,
I can't help having a special feeling of tribute for this very special
and unselfish consideration by these young people, I hope everyone
else shares that thought.

Picnic at Lindber s: As Seniors, in our 55 or 70+ years, we have
encountered people who .have remained in our memory as standouts ,
Being a bit analytical, we probably discover that these kind of
people hold our respect because of an accomodating regard for their
fellow man. Tillie and Bert Lindberg of Ham Lake are two such
people For the past several years this Ham Lake couple have been
regular bowlers with the Seniors at Maple Lanes . They have come to
know many of the seniors quite well and are regarded as friends by
many. In recent years, Tillie and Bert have set aside a day each year
to open their home for a Pot Luck Picnic and friendly gathering ,
On June 29, the Lindbergs were host to about forty guests who enJoyed
a tour of their very nice home and an afternoon of games, good
conversation, and of course the ever intriging Pot Luck Feast,
This gracious couple mentioned that they intend to make this gathering
an annual event as long as their health permits . The Bowling Seniors
ofMapleLanes gather in force to express their gratitude to Tillie and
Bert and wish them amny more years of continued good health,

SHRINE CIRCUS

The Circus is coming to town --- this fall _-- it's at the
Met Center. The Shriners have arranged for a wonderful turkey
luncheon. Following lunch, we will go to the Met Center for
the 1987 New Zurah Shrine Circus.
