Farewell to 1994, Welcome '95
1994 was an exciting year for the Fridley Senior Center. We have all worked very hard and
experienced many positive changes. One major endeavor that the Senior Management Board
undertook was developing its Vision and a Mission Statement in January.

Adult Day Care Comes to Fridley: Tuming Point
In March of 1994, a small group of friends gathered together to formulate a plan for an
adult day program. The group consisted of Registered Nurses who together had a broad
base of experiences in rehabilitation nursing, geriatric long term care nursing, public health
nursing and nursing education. We had all been advocates for physically and cognitively
impaired adults. We came together to create an adult day program that is creative and
caring in its approach. We advocate that seniors stay in their homes and in their
communities, and that they make use of services that are available to them in their own
community. The services should be in tume with the individuals needs. We hold high
regard for caregivers, who fight the daily battles as advocates for their loved ones. The
loss of self, physically and mentally extracts a high price to both caregiver and individual
victims of dementia and Alzheimer's and other progressive diseases. We believe that we
can help by developing an individualized plan of care for the participant of our day
program and his/her caregiver. We believe in treating all that comes into our daycare with
respect and dignity.
The program is geared to participant interests and abilities. We are open from 8:OOam
to 5:OOpm with program hours from 9:OOam-3:OOpm. The program hours are$40.00, any
hours that exceed program hours are billed at $5.00/hour. The hours not included in the
program hours are to allow caregivers to work their jobs and maintain their lives as they
wish. The program includes 2 snacks and a noon meal, supervision, activities, health
monitoring, and much more. Transportation is not-included and not available at this time.
Local transportation providers can be contacted privately.
