TO SPONSOR SENIOR OPTIONS EXPOSITION
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. , July 11, 1985-- The Metropolitan Senior Foundation and Health
Futures Institute have formed a joint venture to organize Senior Options, the Twin Cities
first resource and lifestyle exposition designed specifically for senior citizens,
pre-retirees and children of the elderly.
The two-day event on October 21 and 22 at the Minneapolis Convention Center will
present nationally known speakers and Twin Cities geriatrics experts. They will address
options for seniors in the areas of finance, health care, housing, employment and
nutrition and exercise.
In addition to the speakers and workshops, the convention' s main floor will feature
more than 150 exhibitors who will offer travel advice, product demonstrations and
nutritional food samples.
Entertainment during the exposition will focus on senior performing arts groups and
will include special features such as a senior fashion show and an indoor walking exercise
track.
The Senior Options exposition will be held in conjunction with the Metropolitan Senior
Federation annual meeting. An estimated 7,500 persons are expected to attend the
exposition.
"It used to be that senior citizens viewed their post-retirement years as a time just
to relax." said Carl Carlson, president of the Metropolitan Senior Federation. "Today,
instead of just resigning themselves to an easy chair, more and more seniors are looking
for new outlets for their energy, creativity and interests. This exposition is designed
to present a cornucopia of options, ideas and information about how seniors can live
productive, rewarding lives."
The exposition is also targeted to those individuals preparing for retirement or who
have parents who are elderly.
"We have found that the more information available to pre-retirees and the children of
the elderly, the better prepared they will be when they retire or the better advice they
can offer their parents, " said Steve Moscow, Executive Director of Health Futures
Institute. "The result will be more healthy senior population, mentally, physically and
spiritually."
Senior Options is funded through a major grant from the Medtronic Foundation.
The Metropolitan Senior Federation is a coalition of 270 affiliated organizations
representing 120,000 elderly in the Twin Cities area.
