FRIENDLY FRIDLEY FOLKS
MEETINGS
In a general discussion, agreement was reached to keep meeting dates as is: The first
Tuesday of each month as an evening time and the third Tuesday as an afternoon meeting.
Betty Carroll , Historian, is assembling an FFF scrap book and needs materials to help
fill the pages. If any members have photos, published news items , or other momentos and
would like to see them as part of Betty's energetic endeavor she will glady accept them at
any meeting.
At a previous meeting, President Tony Lorbeski , suggested that adding a public relations
committee to the present standing committees could have some advantages. This suggestion
met with favorable concept and will be voted on, as required in club by-laws, at the first
meeting in March.
Anoka County Vial-of Life representative, Evelyn Swing, offered her time to explain
the purpose of that group of volunteers. If any Anoka County resident is ever in need of
emergency assistance it is important that the administrators of the aid have certain
medical information. The Vial-of-Life provides a system that makes such information
available at the place of need, thus possibly preventing complicating developments. People
who are under special medical care are urged to avail themselves of this program service
which is free. Evelyn and her volunteer associates have been diligent in their efforts to
acquaint all of Anoka County with this program existence and importance. Vial-of-Life
kits are available at Connie's office, telephone 571-3450, extension 1220
Ifs a report of a recent Metropolitan Senior Federation meeting, Bill Heikkila, a club
delegate, said the subjects of guardianship and energy were the main topics of discussion.
Clarifying the rights of guardianship of older people with sizeable estates has been in need
of legislation for some time and attempts by interested groups are trying to introduce such
related bills. Also, stopping utilities from billing rate increases to its customers before
State Commissions have reached a decision thatis seriously being considered.
Connie's Comments: Roster books are finished and are being distributed now. Everyone
who wishes to continue getting the nevisletter should notify Connie. The last newsletter
had a slip for than purpose, Classes that were recessed for the holidays will resume in
February. Income 'Fax Help -- look for another article in this newsletter. The Bel-Rae
Ballroom management is interested in forming a Senior Dance Club that could meet once a
month with live music and refreshments at a nominal charge. All interested people can
contact Connie. Connie urged the club, through its' Sunshine Committee, to include people
who are closely associated with people of the club: They appreciate cards and calls while
on the ailment list.
If you have nutured a flare for the theatrical , it is possible now to partially satisfy
that ambition with enrollment in a TV Production Class. The class is held in Fridley's
Cable Television headquarters and is exclusively for seniors. Check with Connie for further
information,
For all of you who like to sing and those who believe they can learn, a Senior Choir is
being organized under the direction of Randy Johnson. Randy, a young man with a good musical
background, believes that a Senior Choir would be a welcome innovation in Fridley. Again,
check with Connie. Connie would like to see more people in her Aerobic Exercise classes:
