Let: Connie know what you plan for lunch. FRIENDLY FRIDLEY FOLKS CLUB NEWS The class in Candy Making that was scheduled for the first two Mondays in April was postponed to a possible later date because of low sign-up. Josephine Zawislak, who was to conduct the class, suggested that in the Fall just before the holidays interest in candy making may be more keen among the sweet tooth fans. If enough people want the class, Connie will try to plan one. Josephine's samples at the February Friendly Fridley Folks Birthday Meeting would certainly erase any doubts of her ability to make professional-type candy. Connie, in behalf of the Fridley Park Department, beamed her pleasure and pride while presenting an appreciation plaque to a lady distinguished in community services. Marian Dolinage, FFF member, also serves as Out-Reach Coordinator for Anoka County Action Program. In that capacity she has displayed an Intensity of application in keeping the various senior organizations informed of related news, important events and community developments. Another of her. responsibilities is to provide immediate information to significant authorities as. to the needs and wants of concerned seniors in Anoka County. Though the name Marian Dolinage modestly remains the background, her efforts in community affairs warrant the esteem of everyone that she represents. The Friendly Fridley Folks joined with the Park Department in their plaudits to this devoted servant of the people. Entertainment for the March 17 meeting was provided by a young man who showed that he has other magic besides that of the keyboard. Randy Johnson, presently studying music and working part-time at City Hall, presented a number of interesting and baffling magic tricks to the clubs amusement. Though Randy rates himself as an early amateur, it is evident that with continued developement he could easily enter the ranks of sea,3oned performers. Unlike some performers who make their audience disappear, Randy concentrated on making inanimate objects leave the premises. Bocce ball is trying for another comeback. Fridley's Park Department expressed willingness to build a Bocce Ball court and help organize a league if enough people are interested. Physical exertion is minimal as it is mostly a game of mental skill requiring one to roll a crochet sized ball to targets or to hit an opponents ball away from the target. The game can be played as a team effort or as individuals. The clubs program committee met April 7 to discuss possible entertainment. Some of the future performers will be Roger Van Burgen - Guitarist and Singer; Arnie Johnson Guitarist and Singer of sacred and old timesongs; A picnic at Islands of Peace on the Mississippi River; Outing to Carl Nelson's summer place on Spectacle Lake; The Annual Pot-Luck Supper will be on the last evening meeting of the year: May 5th. Club members signed a paper designating what each- would bring. If anyone didn't attend the last meeting but would like -to come to the supper, they can call Connie at 571-3450, extension 122. Plans for the Friendly Fridley Folks float entry in the 49'ers Parade are progressing satisfactorily according to President, Tony Lorbeski who is devoting a lot of his time and expertise to the project. The theme has been chosen, arrangements for float carrier have been completed, along with a commendable share of other smaller details associated with this type of venture. The 49'er governing committee has alloted $200.00 to our I club to help allay the customary expenses that will be incurred. In addition to entering a float in the Parade, the Friendly Fridley Folks will also sponsor a Senior Bowling Tournament at Maple Lanes and a Senior Dance to be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall located on Highway #65. Dates and added information for the above noted events will be in an ensueing.issue of the senior news, j CLUB NEWS - Page 2 in an effort to have something for every senior in Fridley, Connie has been trying an ever : varying line of games, classes, and sports. As evidence of her faith in the seniors athletic powers, .Connie has persuaded the Park Department to offer tennis lessons to seniors. Sound ludicrous??? Seniors across the entire nation have been disspelling that notion more and more in these modern times. The lessons, beginning April 14, will be at the courts of the Commons Park and the hours are from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. . Everyone is urged to bring their own tennis racquets (borrowed or handdowns) if at all possible as the City has a limited supply of tennis gear. At present seven eager beavers have signed up and other aspirants who want some of the court action can call Connie at 571-3450, extension #122 and Tracy will be the teacher. Repeat Tracy will be the teacher. The net will be lowered (to the ground if necessary) for the winner's traditional leap across. Club members who attended the April 7th meeting received a rare and special treat in music entertainment: The Barbershop Quartet from the Fridley Senior High School. They sang in the style of the real old-time quartets: with embellishments. The four personable young men not only had well trained voices but their acting accompaniment was amusing especially the Jonah in the Whale number. They must of been good--their time went so fast. Welcome back anytime fellows! Lectures on ageing in America will continue into May and will be still at the Fridley Community Education Center on 7th Street. Dr. Robert Kennedy used the first night to explain the changes that will take place in retirement processes for the next forty years. On the second night, Dr. Candido Zanoni answered questions and commented on ideas that came from the listeners. Space does not permit a detailed report on the timely topics of these seminars: Everyone should attend at least one of these meetings and decide for themselves the importance of the themes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ QUESTIONNAIRE Not only is it a privilege but a duty to have more voice in community affairs.
