A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE UNIVERSITY AVENUE CORRIDOR MAP
THROUGH THE CITY OF FRIDLEY PROVIDING FOR THE USE OF FENCING,
LIGHTING, AND DESIGN TO ENHANCE A COMMUNITY IDENTIY AND
DIRECTING STAFF TO SUBMIT SUCH MAP TO THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley (City) and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT)
sponsored a Corridor Development Initiative for purposes of soliciting community input on the
future design of University Avenue and Highway 65 through Fridley; and
WHEREAS, a series of 4 Meetings were held on February 22, March 7, March 21 and April 4,
2019 which included over 50 people in attendance at each meeting and consisted of residents,
business representatives and community members; and
WHEREAS, a final report was developed and accepted by the Fridley City Council on June 24,
2019; and
WHEREAS, A specific recommendation within the report included to "enhance the sense of place
and community identity "and a goal within that strategy was for the City and MNDOT to work
together toward a "consistent use of fencing, lighting and design to allow the corridors to feel more
cohesive and considering fencing only in residential areas"; and
WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the final corridor meeting representative from the City and
MNDOT worked collaboratively to achieve the Recommendation and Goals pertaining to fencing
on University Avenue as identified in the Corridor study report; and
WHEREAS, the map of University Avenue in Fridley represents the best efforts and desires of the
City and MNDOT as it relates to the disposition of the existing fence and its improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby
approves the University Avenue fencing map, as shown in Attachment 1, and directs staff to submit
such map to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
