Resolution No. 2022-137
Renewing Contract for Towing, Impounding, and Storage of Motor Vehicles Between
the City of Fridley and Collins Brothers Towing d/b/a Schmit Towing
Whereas, pursuant to Section 1.02 of the City Charter, the City of Fridley (City) is authorized to
enter into contracts with outside entities; and
Whereas, throughout the City, there is a regular need for the towing and safe keeping of vehicles
that are abandoned, disabled, damaged, recovered, or involved in a crime; and
Whereas, the Police Division has contracted with Schmit Towing for services related to the towing,
impounding, and storage of motor vehicles since 2010; and
Whereas, comprehensive comparisons of eligible tow contractors were completed in 2009 and
2019; and
Whereas, Schmit Towing has provided a level of service that meets the needs of the City and has
been consistent with the terms of previous contracts; and
Whereas, Schmit Towing was sold to Collins Brothers Towing of St. Cloud in 2022, but will
continue to operate in Fridley as Schmit Towing; and
Whereas, Collins Brothers Towing, d/b/a Schmit Towing, and City staff have drafted a contract for
towing services for a term commencing on January 1, 2023 and culminating on December 31,
2025; and
Whereas, the contract may be renewed thereafter in three-year intervals, at which time Collins
Brothers Towing, d/b/a Schmit Towing, reserves the right to renegotiate charges for towing and
storage services at the time of renewal.
Now, therefore be it resolved, that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby supports the
contract with Collins Brothers Towing, d/b/a Schmit Towing, for the towing, impounding, and
storage of motor vehicles.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Fridley this 12th day of December,
2022.
