Supporting Pursuit of Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Funding from the
Minnesota Department of Transportation for the Multi-Use Trail Along the West Side of
stth
Trunk Highway 47 Between 61 Avenue and 69 Avenue
Whereas, the City of Fridley’s (City) Active Transportation Plan and American’s with Disabilities Act
(ADA) Transition Plan prioritize projects that improve multimodal roadway access in the City; and
Whereas, and staff have identified a multi-use trail on the west side of Trunk Highway 47 as a priority
project consistent with these plans, and
Whereas, in 2019, 2020 and 2021, staff applied resources to outreach to the affected community,
including holding meetings at the Civic Campus and onsite with the neighborhoods and stakeholders
to identify beneficial improvements to the aforementioned segment of the west side of Trunk
Highway 47; and
Whereas, in 2022, one segment of this multi-use trail was constructed north of Mississippi Street;
and
Whereas, staff have developed conceptual design of the identified improvements completing the
stth
segment of multi-use trail on the west side of Trunk Highway 47 from 61 Avenue to 69 Avenue;
and
Whereas, the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant administered by the Minnesota Department
of Transportation (MnDOT) makes available up to $500,000 to apply towards projects on local roads
that are regionally significant, result in safety improvements, address transportation deficiencies, and
contribute to economic development; and
Whereas, an application must be submitted to MnDOT by December 30, 2022; and
Whereas, the proposed year for project construction with the Active Transportation Infrastructure
Grant Funding is 2023.
Now, therefore be it resolved,
1. That the City Council hereby supports the construction of a multi-use trail along the west side

of Trunk Highway 47 between 61 Avenue to 69 Avenue, and
2. That the City Council hereby supports the City’s pursuit of Active Transportation Infrastructure
Grant funding and authorizes staff to prepare and submit such application, and

3. That the City Council hereby provides assurance that the City of Fridley will pay all costs
associated with the project and that city staff will ensure that all aspects of the Active
Transportation Infrastructure funding requirements are met, and the project’s schedule is
adhered to.
